No, 2020 will not be remembered as the COVID year by me.
As we look back these days at the year that is coming to an end, it’s easy to describe it as anyone would. But no, 2020 will not be remembered as the COVID year by me.
I choose to remember it as the year I founded Olive Operations, your business partner in Spain.
I know, I could have chosen a better moment. But when I decided to go for it in February, no one could have foreseen the impact this pandemic would have.
So what was 2020 like for Olive Operations?
I got my first Dutch and British customers through my network, while still working part-time for a Belgian company. I helped them settle, hire, take care of all the necessary paperwork, and basically operated -and still do- as their HR and Operations Manager on site. I loved it so much that, after the summer, I decided to go all the way for my dream of being an independent entrepreneur.
Twenty years of working for a boss, I always proclaimed I worked with the attitude of an entrepreneur, as if it was for my own pocket, never looking at the clock or at how much effort it would cost me to achieve my goals. And now finally I could bring this attitude to the benefit of my own business.
Olive Operations offers help to companies setting up or settling in Spain. We mainly focus on HR & contract management, facilities, compliance. Although my partner was originally mainly involved in marketing and sales, he’s now an important part of the team, taking on also market research assignments and with his investigative background as a historian, turning them into real works of art.
As head of department or operational manager, I was always happiest coaching my people and helping them grow as professionals. That’s why I am very grateful I was contacted by a Belgian start-up to help the owner coach her team and set up an HR policy. It feels so gratifying to work with a team again and making a difference in people’s lives. And so I can continue to learn, diversify and grow, while doing what I enjoy doing, offering our clients a broad range of services, always with the utmost care and a personal and quick service.
So was 2020 a good year for me? Hell yeah!
But do I wish more of the same, of course not!
I want to see my friends & family, hug and kiss them, go to social events, network, meet my clients again face to face, and welcome new ones to this beautiful country!
Also for you, I truly hope you were able to make the most of the past year, seeing the opportunities, rather than the restrictions.
May I wish you a very relaxing holiday season but most of all a healthy, joyful, and warm 2021 filled with new business adventures, inspiration, and entrepreneurship, but most importantly love, hugs and happiness.
You’ve earned it.
